Jannet F. Lewis, M.D. is the director of noninvasive cardiology at the George Washington University Hospital and a professor of medicine at the George Washington University. A graduate of the Louisiana State University School of Medicine, Dr. Lewis completed her cardiology fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Her specialization is in echocardiography and she has completed scores of studies and presented information that has helped cardiologists around the world understand the various ways that cardiovascular disease affects patients.

Her recent written contributions to the medical community include articles in major cardiology journals and textbooks, including “Doppler and Two-dimensional Echocardiographic Evaluation in Acute and Long-term Management of the Heart Failure Patient” published in the textbook Clinical Echocardiography, “Dobutamine Stress Echocardiography in Women with Check Pain: Pilot Phase Data from NHLBI Women’s Ischemia Syndrome Evaluation (WISE)” published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, “ Relationship of Race to Sudden Cardiac Death in Competitive Athletics with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy” also published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology and “Clinical Competence Statement on Echocardiography: a Report of the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association/American College of Physicians/American Society of Internal Medicine Task Force on Clinical Competence” published in the journal Circulation.

Dr. Lewis has demonstrated a long-term commitment to education. She has presented her research findings in lectures nationally and internationally, including American College of Cardiology Scientific meetings, and has been faculty at the ACC Heart House Learning Center for several years.

Her commitment to research and up-to-date patient care has earned her numerous awards and recognition. In 1997, she was appointed to the American Heart Association Council on Clinical Cardiology Committee on Cardiac Imaging and was named chairperson in 2000. She has also been a member of numerous other professional groups including the American College of Cardiology, the American Society of Echocardiography Scientific Program Committee and the Food and Drug Administration Cardiovascular and Renal Drugs Advisory Committee.
